the government of solano county defined , authorized under california constitution , law general law county. county government provides countywide services such elections , voter registration, law enforcement, jails, vital records, property records, tax collection, public health, , social services. in addition county serves local government unincorporated areas.


the county government composed of elected five-member board of supervisors, several other elected offices including sheriff-coroner, district attorney, assessor/recorder, auditor-controller, , treasurer/tax collector/county clerk, , numerous county departments , entities under supervision of county administrator. of january 2013 members of solano county board of supervisors were:

solano democratic county in presidential , congressional elections, though gives higher vote percentages republicans compared 8 other bay area counties. last republican win majority in county ronald reagan in 1984.


solano county split between california s 3rd , 5th congressional districts, represented john garamendi (d–walnut grove) , mike thompson (d–st. helena), respectively.


in california state assembly, solano county split between 4th assembly district, represented democrat cecilia aguiar-curry, , 11th assembly district, represented democrat jim frazier. in california state senate, in 3rd senate district, represented democrat bill dodd.


on nov. 4, 2008, solano county voted 55.9% proposition 8, amended california constitution ban same-sex marriages. bay area county approve initiative. in 2008 presidential election day, barack obama carried county 28.5% margin on john mccain, larger margin statewide (24%).


according california secretary of state, of october 22, 2012, solano county has 209,484 registered voters, out of 274,284 eligible (76.4%). of those, 101,815 (48.6%) registered democrats, 52,777 (25.2%) registered republicans, , 45,581 (21.8%) have declined state political party. democrats hold voter-registration advantages in incorporated cities , towns in solano county. however, republicans lead in registration in unincorporated communities of county (40%-35%), making solano county in bay area republicans out-number democrats in unincorporated communities. democrats largest registration advantage in solano in city of vallejo, wherein there 8,242 republicans (14.6%) out of 56,313 total voters compared 33,753 democrats (59.9%) , 12,157 voters have declined state political party (21.6%).
