background , foundation

the party founded on 25 july 1948 trentino tyrolean people s party (pptt).

between 1972 , 1976, pptt represented in italian senate sergio fontanari.

in 1982 split between conservative wing, led franco tretter, , centrist wing of party, led longstanding leader enrico pruner, occurred. first group retained name of party, changed trentino tyrolean autonomist union (uatt), while latter took name of integral autonomy (ai).

in 1988 uatt , ai merged form patt.

participation in provincial government

in 1988 provincial election patt won barely tenth of votes cast (9.9%), losing ground combined score of uatt , ai in 1983 election (14.4%), joined provincial government, led christian democracy (dc).

in 1993 provincial election party, 20.2%, secured best result ever trentino autonomists, due crisis of dc. patt s leader, carlo andreotti, president of province of trento successive 5 years, @ head of coalition composed of patt , italian people s party, dc s successor, , minor parties. in 1996 splinters patt, led sergio casagranda , domenico fedel (who had been more active lega autonomia trentino), launched new party named integral autonomy (ai), which, namesake predecessor, represented party s left-wing.

in 1998 provincial election patt s share of vote declined 12.4%, due presence of ai (3.8%) and, especially, success of newly formed daisy civic list (22.2%). ai entered in coalition daisy, while patt formed alliance house of freedoms and, primarily, lega nord trentino 2001 general election: under arrangement, giacomo bezzi stood candidate in single-seat-constituency of lavis, narrowly defeated.

in 2002 patt entered alliance daisy-dominated centre-left coalition. consequently, carlo andreotti appointed president of trentino-alto adige/südtirol @ head of coalition comprising svp, daisy, democrats of left , greens. contextually, trentino autonomists (at), formed merger of ai provincial section of italian renewal , additional patt splinters led dario pallaoro in 2000, joined forces patt.

in run-up of 2003 provincial election bezzi led party stable alliance daisy , centre-left @ provincial level, andreotti, serve president of region until 2004, disagreed, left party , formed autonomist trentino (ta). in election, andreotti, ran president centre-right coalition led forza italia, soundly defeated (60.8% 30.7%) incumbent lorenzo dellai (daisy), appointed franco panizza of patt government. moreover, patt won 9.0% of vote, ta did worse , garnered mere 2.2%. 2 years later, bezzi replaced secretary ugo rossi.

after 2006 general election, electoral pact svp , electoral victory centre-left coalition union, patt first time represented in chamber of deputies former secretary giacomo bezzi. in 2007 @ formally merged patt.

continued alliance centre-left

in 2008 general election patt formed alliance daisy civc list , svp senate (sergio muraro of patt candidate in single-seat constituency of pergine valsugana), while chamber of deputies patt supported svp.

prior electoral campaign, bezzi, not running re-election, announced going vote centre-right in election. also, would-be senator muraro did not rule out possibility of alliance centre-right, if silvio berlusconi have become prime minister again. in election, centre-left first time defeated in trentino , muraro not elected. loss brought patt bitter turmoil. bezzi left party , formed popular autonomists (ap), along 2 minor regionalist parties, autonomist trentino , popular autonomy movement.

in 2008 provincial election ap supported sergio divina, senator , leader of lega nord trentino, candidate president, while patt remained aligned centre-left democratic party (pd) , dellai s union trentino (upt). dellai re-elected landslide , patt gained 8.5% of vote , 3 provincial deputies. patt took part new government of dellai 2 provincial ministers, panizza , rossi.

for 2013 general election, patt formed alliance svp, upt , pd. led best result ever party in general election: mauro ottobre elected deputy in svp s list, gained 4.8% in trentino, , panizza elected senator in constituency of trento.

leadership of autonomist centre-left

in run-up of 2013 provincial election, rossi of patt won province s centre-left primary election.

in provincial election, rossi elected president landslide 58.1% of vote, while patt garnered 17.6% , 7 elects in provincial council (plus rossi). bezzi, former patt leader, stood candidate forza trentino , gained mere 4.3% of vote. following election, rossi formed eight-member strong government, including 3 ministers of pd, 2 of upt, 1 of patt (michele dallapiccola) , 1 independent (carlo daldoss).

the party contested 2014 european parliament election in alliance svp, list supported upt. list won 12.2% in trentino.

in march 2016 patt hold important congress. 4 candidates have filed become secretary: include outgoing secretary , senator panizza (whose supporters notably include rossi), party s deputy ottobre, dario chilovi (supported kaswalder) , giuseppe corona (representing tyrolean separatist wing). panizza clear favourite, kaswalder, increasingly represented party s conservative wing , had taken critical approach on rossi s presidency. repeatedly tried forge agreement between 4 candidates in order have jointly elected secretary finally, panizza , kaswalder found agreement under chilovi retire candidacy secretary , endorse panizza, while both camps support carlo pedergnana president. consequently, both chilovi , ottobre retired race, ottobre, critical of pact, chose run president instead.

on congress day panizza voted secretary 75% of delegates, while corona took 23%. pedergnana elected president, beating former ally , mentor ottobre 59–38%. congress confirmed strategic alliance svp, while not embracing ottobre s , corona s tyrolean nationalism. few days later, pedergnana resigned, after old photos of him doing roman salute , kissing pictures of benito mussolini leaked. new congress scheduled in june: ottobre wanted run again, time pedergnana s , corona s support, decided leave party altogether. linda tamanini, close kaswalder, trying keep ottobre , tyroleans in, elected president 70% of vote.

in january 2017 kaswalder expelled party, after months of tensions party s leadership , dissent votes in provincial council.
