formation

the club formed in 1955 former pupils of st. aloysius college in garnethill, glasgow. team formed sole purpose of challenge match against st. aloysius college 1st xv rugby side. (an old aloysians fc side formed play football , competed in west amateur cup.)


the success of 1955 challenge match led old aloysians club being founded on permanent basis , regular fixtures arranged.


the first fixture against hutcheson s gsfp, coinciding invitation hutchesons’ grammar school saint aloysius’ college ist xv undertake regular fixtures.


open side

although club fed former pupils of st. aloysius college, open club , membership open non-former pupils.


national league

the side joined national league in 1973. during 1980s slid division 4 division 6 in season 1988-89.


initially, there optimism coming season 1989-90 team felt comfortably placed in division 6. had seen tour milan university rfc play side in 1988-89. hoped last season s st. aloysius college 1st xv successful, graduates might bolster side , boost, in particular, away record of old aloysians side.


for 1989-90 season, club had organised preston grasshoppers play side on tour.


however start of season optimism misplaced. finished bottom of division 6 1 win , 1 draw in league campaign, conceding 253 points in process. @ end of season club relegated division 7.


this led thoughts of merger , old aloysians began talks hutcheson s gsfp.
