opened royal flying corps training site in 1916, station closed 3 years later , returned farmland. pilot training resumed in 1936, 1939 site used train many airborne wireless operators and, 1942, radar operators. training of radar operators, mechanics , fitters continued until 1965; in 1969 wooden huts demolished , land returned again farming, leaving several brick-built buildings , hangars.
