1982–2003: life , beginnings

aurélien cotentin born on 1 august 1982 in alençon in lower normandy, raised father, middle school principal, , mother, teacher. listened rock music , fan of manga , bande dessinée. while practicing basketball, picked love of rap through basketball friends. graduated french baccalauréat in economic , social sciences before moving caen studied @ l École de management de normandie, graduating in 2004. while in college, made friends record producer skread, had worked diam s, booba, rohff , nessbeal. collaborated gringe in initial works , formed duo casseurs flowters him in 2004.

orelsan spent 1 year @ university of tampa in florida, had inspiration of writing song 50 pour cent . in 2002, issued mixtape , invited contribute in various compilations. returning france , working night shifts in hotel gave him opportunity write more.

in 2004, orelsan formed hip hop duo casseurs flowters colleague gringe. french record producer skread, released first mixtape fantasy: episode 1 in 2004 11 tracks. afterwards, 2 decided focus on building solo careers.

in august 2006, orelsan released first clip on youtube, called ramen , followed second 1 in 2007, called saint-valentin , sarcastic parody on valentine s day attracted great following prompting him release more of work online through youtube , myspace.

in 2008, record label 3 bureau noticed work , offered him opportunity produce album in collaboration 7th magnitude, record label founded skread , colleague ablaye. in summer of 2008, promoted release of changement , first single released on 13 october 2008, , music video through tf1 video , nolife tv channels. video orelsan s first professionally prepared clip.

on 16 february 2009, orelsan released debut album perdu d avance, provocative album produced skread, included 14 tracks. changement lead single, included tracks such title track perdu d avance , 50 pour cent , soirée ratée , différent , no-life , music video releases all. entre bien et mal featured casseurs flowters colleague gringe , la peur de l échec featured guns n roses guitarist ron bumblefoot thal. @ end of 2009, orelsan nominated prix constantin award, , won mtv europe music award best french act, pipping highly favoured david guetta prize.

2011–2012: le chant des sirènes , rising recognition

on 30 may 2011, orelsan released raelsan , pre-release , lead single upcoming second album. second single, double vie , made available through youtube , skyrock on 9 june. plus rien ne m étonne followed on 25 july, , suicide social released on 15 september.

the album le chant des sirènes released on 26 september 2011 16 tracks including popular tracks such title track le chant des sirènes , mauvaise idée , finir mal . fifth single, la terre est ronde , released album on 24 december, , sixth single, ils sont cools featuring gringe, released on 22 june 2012. receiving positive reviews music critics, album certified gold 1 month after release in france, on 50,000 copies sold, , certified platinum in 2012 on 100,000 copies sold. album peaked @ number 3 on french (snep) albums chart, @ number 9 on belgian (wallonia) ultratop albums chart, , @ number 32 on swiss (hitparade) albums chart.

on 3 march 2012, orelsan won 2 awards in victoires de la musique, 1 in category urban album of year le chant des sirènes, , group or artist popular revelation of year chosen public.

2013–2014: casseurs flowters reunion , debut studio album

in 2013, orelsan s recognition continued growing further, nominated victoires de la musique award male artist of year, while given prix de la création musicale award songwriter of year. nominated nrj music award french revelation of year, , @ 2013 trace urban music awards, nominated male artist of year , best live performance awards, while la terre est ronde nominated best song , ils sont cools featuring gringe nominated best music video.

following success of le chant des sirènes, orelsan released first collaborative single casseurs flowters gringe, bloqué , on 3 july 2013 pre-release upcoming debut studio album. orelsan et gringe sont les casseurs flowters released on 15 november 2013 positive reviews, , includes tracks such regarde comme il fait beau (dehors) , la mort du disque , dans la place pour être , fais les backs , charted in france despite not being released singles. album certified gold in france upfi in 2014, having sold on 50,000 copies.

2015–present: comment c est loin , la fête est finie

on 21 march 2015, orelsan posted photo of script working title orel et gringe (orel , gringe) on instagram page. on may 4, posted photo, time of himself gringe in film, confirming shooting film complete , title comment c est loin.

on october 29, 2015, orelsan , gringe released À l heure où je me couche single film s original soundtrack, confirmed released on same day film. both released on december 9 and, orelsan et gringe sont les casseurs flowters, received positive reviews critics. 2 more songs album, inachevés , si facile , charted in france despite not being released singles. album certified platinum in france in january 2017.

in april 2017, orelsan announced , gringe working on third , debut solo studio albums respectively, did not reveal release dates. on september 20, 2017, orelsan released first single third solo album, entitled basique , along music video in album s release date revealed october 20, 2017. on september 22, 2017, orelsan revealed name of album, la fête est finie, along cover art. on october 20, la fête est finie released, huge critical , commercial success: album certified gold snep within 3 days, , platinum within week.
