Early touring Franklin (automobile)

on july 18, 1902, few weeks after cars debut, willard c. lipe, vice-president of h. h. franklin manufacturing company, gave 1 of company s automobiles little endurance run when drove car 57 miles (92 km) lisle, new york, returning same day. accompanied w. h. brown. total run day 134 miles (216 km). on return, left lisle @ 2:00 pm , reached onondaga street in syracuse @ 7:30 pm. no effort made break speed records, demonstrate reliable, steady going qualities of vehicle has wilkinson four-cylinder air-cooled motor. although afternoon hot, motor took hills without slightest difficulty. lipe believed of hills long, steep , rough can found in state.


john wilkinson traveled new york city in franklin 30-horsepower, six-cylinder franklin on july 14, 1906. reached hotel manhattan in automobile after fast run syracuse. trip took 15 hours , 15 minutes. left syracuse @ 4:45 , reached hotel @ 8:00 pm.


according wilkinson had splendid run. averaged 25 miles (40 km) hour. roads smooth, run syracuse little falls trifle rough. however, made time between these points. wilkinson had made trip in day on 2 former occasions including once c. benjamin in little touring runabout.
