1996 highlighted bonds joining 40–40 club second member (after s josé canséco in 1988), 42 hr & 40 sb along 129 rbi, 151 bb & .308 ba. rookie bill mueller provided hope future of club .330 average (66 hits in 200 ab on 55 games). matt williams , g. hill provided offensive support. pitching, scarcely better in 1995. mark gardner had more 10 wins (12–7, 4.42 era), , rod beck had 35 saves , 3.34 era 9 losses , rest of bullpen woeful. low point came in late june when giants, after surging .500 brief moment, lost 10 straight games en route 68–94 record, starting game in atlanta first tied several runs in ninth lost in innings. long-time radio voice, hank greenwald, retired after season.
