originally, episodes make season ordered part of show s eighth. however, release of seventh season dvd, cartoon network began re-arranging official season divisions. network decreed seventh season comprised episodes bonnie & neddy through thin yellow line . consequently, episodes broke crown through reboot (which had been ordered last episodes of show s seventh season) , episodes 2 swords through islands miniseries (which had been ordered beginning of show s eighth season) combined form show s official eighth season. episodes orb through 3 buckets (which had been ordered end of season eight) considered network constitute show s ninth season.


this season s episodes produced in process similar previous seasons episodes. first, of episodes begin simple two-to-three-page outlines contain necessary plot information. these outlines handed off storyboard artists, expand rough outline full storyboard. episodes design , coloring done in burbank, california. animation handled overseas in south korea, either rough draft korea or saerom animation. continuing tradition first started fifth season episode glitch glitch , season features work of guest animators. episode ketchup features animation courtesy of alex & lindsay small-butera, husband , wife duo perhaps best known web series baman piderman. small-buteras had contributed animation eighth-season episode beyond grotto .


the main storyline writers season included jack pendarvis, adam muto, ashly burch, osborne, , julia pott. according pendarvis, after burch left following eighth season, julia parachuted in @ perhaps mind boggling moment in sweeping arc of series totally undaunted, , showed incredible spirit , ingeniousness encouraged press forward. storyboard artists worked on season included adam muto, sam alden, polly guo, seo kim, somvilay xayaphone, laura knetzger, steve wolfhard, tom herpich, graham falk, kent osborne, hanna k. nyström, , aleks sennwald. in regards other aspects of production, ghostshrimp—the series former lead background designer—returned series work on background pieces abstract , fionna , cake , fionna , , whispers . ghostshrimp had retired show after fourth season, had returned draw backgrounds seventh-season miniseries stakes.
