the area became davidson township first settled in 1806 and incorporated township in 1833. within township, george sones built sawmill , founded unincorporated village of sonestown in 1843. of these events occurred before sullivan county formed part of lycoming county on march 14, 1847. bridge built in 1850, , in late 19th century sonestown boomed crazy lumber industry grew in sullivan county. village home plant manufactured staves making barrels. had clothespin factory 1903 to 1929 lost industry 1930s. of 1996, sonestown had population of 200, of whom commuted work in muncy, montoursville, , williamsport. in 1996 the village had few stores, inn restaurant, , attracted tourists , hunters.
