hal lahar announced houston s next head coach on january 18, 1957. lahar came colgate university, had served head coach 5 seasons. in college, lahar had played oklahoma sooners, part of school s first bowl team. under lahar, during 1958 season, cougars became nationally recognized offensive leader, team scored combined 117 points in first 3 games. lahar s offensive strategy best characterized split-t.


after winning missouri valley conference titles again in 1957 , 1959, lahar left uh in 1961 , headed colgate university.
