2012 gubernatorial campaign

gregg democratic nominee governor of indiana in 2012 election. faced republican nominee mike pence. although predicted lose decisively pence, gregg closed gap late in election, winning 46% of vote pence s 49%. gregg s campaign focused on putting indiana work in midst of economic recession, , called armistice on social issues. attempted brand pence extremist washington politician, effective demographics, particularly women, did not carry election.




2016 gubernatorial campaign

on april 30, 2015, gregg launched second campaign, rematch against gov. pence, perceived politically weakened after signing religious freedom restoration act. gregg entered 2016 race governor before other democrats announced presumed candidacies, including indiana state sen. karen tallian , state superintendent of schools glenda ritz, withdrew. in july, after pence dropped out of race become republican presidential nominee donald trump s vice presidential running mate in 2016 presidential election, lieutenant governor eric holcomb ended candidacy retain seat in order seek gubernatorial nomination. indiana state republican committee selected holcomb replace pence gubernatorial nominee. greg defeated holcomb in general election governorship.
