History Depok



the original slave families of depok of balinese, ambonese, buginese, sundanese , portuguese indo, i.e., mestizo , mardijker descent. isakh, jacob, jonathans, joseph, , samuel family names baptized chastelein after slave families converted protestant christianity. other families retained original names , might have been (roman catholic) christian before joining chastelein s protestant church. descendants of original depok families exception of sadokh family, still live either in indonesia or netherlands.


in 1871, colonial government gave depok special status allowing area form own government , president. ruling no longer stood after 1952, depok presidency ceded control of depok indonesian government except few areas.


during bersiap (indonesian civil war , war independence netherlands) period of 1945 of depok destroyed , many of inhabitants killed pemuda . many of original depok families fled lives indonesia during indonesian revolution , live in netherlands part of indo community there.


in march 1982, depok reclassified administrative city within bogor regency and, in 1999, city headed mayor. on 20 april 1999, city of depok unified neighbouring districts of bogor regency form autonomous city of depok (independent of regency) area of 200.29 km. date commemorated date of establishment of city.
