the story 9-year-old boy named wataru ikusabe (戦部 ワタル, ikusabe wataru) magically transported magical realm dragon. realm called soukaizan (創界山, sōkaizan), supposed save evil, demonic ruler.


the series incorporates many elements of rpg games including dungeon levels , quests mystical objects. soukaizan represented series of tiered platforms each floating above 1 beneath in rough pyramid shape. in order progress next tier meet series ultimate villain, show s heroes must complete task on 1 beneath. in addition these, has defeat ruler of each level along many henchmen. each level completes, rejuvenates 1 color of gray rainbow on soukaizan.


in quest save realm, wataru manages transform clay sculpture autonomous , small super robot. befriends many of soukaizan natives, , forms strong friendship bonds. term sou-kai-zan can broken down 3 parts: sou (creation), kai (realm, space, world, or universe), , zan (hill or mountain), representing pyramid shape of world s level.
