before breakup of yugoslavia, zorko formidable long-distance runner competitive in 3000 metres , 5000 metres disciplines. @ first major international competition, zorko finished sixth in men s 3000 metres race @ 1989 iaaf world indoor championships. in 1990, won first major medal, winning bronze @ european indoor championships in glasgow. after breakup of yugoslavia, zorko began specializing in middle-distance disciplines, , found talent in 1500 metres. in 1992, zorko won first international medal newly independent croatia, winning bronze medal @ 1992 european indoor athletics championships. year later won bronze medal men s 1500 metres @ 1993 iaaf world indoor championships, finishing 0.39 seconds behind winner marcus o sullivan. next year, zorko finished second in 1500 @ 1994 european athletics indoor championships, , third @ 1994 european championships in athletics.


at 1997 iaaf world indoor championships , @ 2002 european indoor athletics championships, finished in fourth place in respective 1500 metre races.


pacing career

by late 1990s, zorko increasingly suffering injuries, prompted him turn professional pacemaking. pacemaker, assisted in setting several world records, both indoors , outdoors, notably haile gebrselassie.


retirement

on july 11, 2005 @ iaaf grand prix zagreb, zorko announced retirement competitive running.
