on january 13, 2015, variety reported brad pitt, christian bale, , ryan gosling set star in film, pitt producing film along dede gardner , jeremy kleiner. plan b entertainment finance, paramount handling distribution rights. before this, pitt had starred in adaptation of author s moneyball, nominated oscar. on january 14, announced steve carell star. on april 21, 2015, more cast revealed deadline, including melissa leo, marisa tomei, tracy letts, hamish linklater, john magaro, byron mann, rafe spall, jeremy strong, , finn wittrock. charles randolph wrote initial draft. max greenfield joined ensemble cast of film on april 23, 2015. karen gillan tweeted involvement in film on may 8, 2015.


filming

principal photography on film began on march 18, 2015 in new orleans, louisiana. on march 25, filming taking place on general de gaulle boulevard in algiers section of new orleans. on may 8, gillan confirmed shooting scenes. on may 20, 2015, filming took place on mercer, between prince street , spring street in manhattan, new york city. on may 22, production crew recreated offices of failed investment firm lehman brothers in lobby of new york state department of financial services in manhattan. assistant counsel department of financial services played 1 of extras in scene.
