in 1930 f.j. hauschild adapted original stone carver s hammer portable hand-held steel tube frame purpose of straightening auto bodies. next 25 years ram s head body , fender machine improved , increased production auto body work men on u.s. copying hauschild’s patented design, pneumatic tool company in chicago marketed number of destined-to-be-classic pneumatic planishing hammers, both hand-held auto body work, , free-standing ones, variety of throat depths industry , manufacturing.


by world war ii, rivet guns used in u.s. aircraft factories both riveting aluminum sheets, , flow forming, process of working aluminum sheet , on wooden forms application of pneumatic rivet gun.


post-war industry brought many new applications air hammer technology. among these were:



sand rammers , tampers sand casting metal
plating rack scalers
weld chippers
destruction guns cleaning concrete
needle scalers
pavement breakers
metal chisels.

each of these tools has different purpose despite identical appearance in many cases.
