the valhalla museum within tresco abbey gardens features valhalla collection containing 30 figureheads, name-boards , other decorative carvings days of sail. collection started augustus smith. of figureheads date middle , end of 19th century , come merchant sailing vessels or steamships wrecked on isles of scilly. of ships represented in collection are:

a 17th-century stern decoration of greek god boreas , possibly carved pierre puget, said french ship wrecked on annet in century.
ss thames — wrecked 4 january 1841 near gorregan , rosevear.
alessandro ii grande — wrecked 1 january 1851 when blown on mare ledges, off south shore of tresco. there no loss of life. figurehead of tsar alexander i.
mary hay — wrecked 13 april 1852 after hitting steeple rock, on bream ledges between mincarlo , samson.
chieftain — said wrecked in 1856 off st martin s head. there no record of ship name in lloyd s register
award — wrecked 19 march 1861 when driven onto gweal during force 8 9 nnw gale. crew of 24 managed scramble ashore.
primos — wrecked 24 june 1871 on 7 stones reef.
river lune — wrecked 27 june 1879 on brothers rock in muncoy neck, between melledgan , annet.
bernardo – sank on annet in 1888. figurehead said st bernard of clairvaux.
lofaro — wrecked 2 february 1902 struck merrick rock, st martin s loss of crew.
