the company established bedford lemere (born 1839, died 1911) in 1861, studio @ 147 strand, london 1867 1947. son henry (also known harry) bedford lemere (born 1865, died 1944) joined firm in 1881 , 1 of best known photographers, , principal person behind firm in heyday.
bedford lemere & co. leading english firm of architectural photographers between 1870 , 1930, , pioneered photography of new buildings. images captured use of new technologies such motor car, electric light , motion pictures , introduction of steel frame , reinforced concrete revolutionised architecture.

the firm had premises in manchester between 1875 , 1877, , kept strong presence in north west , scotland 40 years. included working gillow’s of lancaster , s j waring & sons of liverpool, , subsequent waring & gillow firm of furnishers , decorators, established in 1897 following merger. bedford lemere went on photograph waring & gillow’s munitions factories during first world war.
henry bedford lemere received hood medal royal photographic society in 1941.
after closing studio @ 147 strand in 1947, firm moved 3 park lane, croydon. acquired archie handford ltd in 1967.
