ivkov fell out of top 40 after 1975, , appeared less in major events. still had notable results later in career. 2nd @ Štip 1977 8.5/13, behind hort. @ bor 1984, shared 2nd–4th places 8.5/13 behind winner slobodan martinovic. won traditional capablanca memorial tournament, played @ cienfuegos in 1985 10/13. in 1991 yugoslav championship @ kladovo, shared 4th–7th places 9/13. ivkov shared 2nd–9th places in 1998 world senior championship @ grieskirchen on 8/11 behind champion vladimir bagirov. impressive late-career feat shared 1st–2nd place in strong tigran petrosian memorial @ moscow 1999 5/9, along portisch. ivkov tied 2nd–4th places in 25th anniversary paul keres memorial @ vancouver 7.5/10, behind winner vladimir epishin. awarded international arbiter title in 1986.
