the lake located around southwestern perimeter of siljan ring (swedish: siljansringen), circular geological formation formed 377 million years ago in devonian major meteorite impact. original crater, eroded, estimated have been 52 km (32 mi) in diameter , largest known impact crater in europe (excluding russia). cambrian, ordovician , silurian sedimentary rocks deformed impact rich in fossils.


some people suspect there might oil in area, drilling has been unsuccessful far. there large deposits of lead , zinc in boda area.
