1932 – centre-forward clarrie bourton heads football league scoring lists 49 goals. following season scored 40 goals.
1934 – city record biggest ever victory 9–0 league drubbing of bristol city.
1936 – coventry city win third division south championship after nail-biting final day 2–1 victory on torquay united , return division 2 after eleven years in lower division.
1958 – goalkeeper alf wood becomes oldest player start game club, year founding member of division 4 (now football league two). played against plymouth argyle in fa cup aged 43 years , 207 days.
1961 – former fulham player , pfa chairman jimmy hill appointed manager following embarrassing fa cup defeat @ home non-league king s lynn.
1964 – jimmy hill guides coventry promotion division 3 champions after final day 1–0 victory on colchester united.
1967 – coventry city promoted second division champions top flight first time in history. made manager , bbc sport presenter jimmy hill legend @ club. coventry s record attendance set in year – officially recorded 51,455, (although many people @ game suggest attendance lot higher, possibly on 60,000) against wolverhampton wanderers, team finished close second coventry @ top of table.
1970 – under noel cantwell, coventry finish 6th in first division, highest league placing. coventry qualify european fairs cup lost 7–3 on aggregate in second round bayern munich, despite winning second leg 2–1 @ highfield road.
1977 – coventry city escaped relegation after drawing bristol city escaped relegation. result of game relegated sunderland, has caused many disuputes on outcome of match due result of sunderland game being relayed coventry city , bristol city players remainder of game.
1978 – strike partnership of ian wallace , mick ferguson helped sky blues finish in seventh position in first division, second-highest ever final league placing, fractionally missing out on uefa cup place.

1981 – club reaches league cup semi-final denied first wembley appearance west ham united, despite being 3–2 ahead after first leg. highfield road becomes england s first all-seater stadium.
1987 – sky blues won fa cup, beating tottenham hotspur in final. major trophy date. runners-up everton in august in charity shield. coventry won fa youth cup in year.
1989 – coventry defeated non-league sutton united in fa cup third round, 19 months after lifting trophy. however, impressive league form meant equalled best ever end of season placing, finishing seventh once more.
1990 – coventry reached league cup semi-final second time, defeated on 2 legs eventual winners nottingham forest.
1998 – club reached fa cup quarter-final denied semi-final appearance sheffield united (a division below them) won replay @ bramall lane on penalties. attained highest premier league finish of 11th position. dion dublin earned top scorer award, 1 club , second of 2 players clubs never made top 3 in league.
2001 – coventry relegated premier league after 34 years in first tier. @ time, liverpool, everton , arsenal boast longer tenures in top flight.
2004 – football academy, based in southeast coventry @ alan higgs centre, owned alan higgs centre trust, opened in september 2004.
2005 – coventry relocated 32,609 seater ricoh arena after 106 years @ highfield road. club s last game @ highfield road stadium results in 6–2 win on midlands rivals derby county in front of sell-out 22,777 crowd.
2007 – coventry narrowly avoided administration when ray ranson , hedge fund managers sisu took on club twenty minutes spare.
2008 – club celebrated 125th anniversary. avoided relegation league 1 despite being beaten 4–1 @ charlton on final day of season.
2009 – first ever complete sell-out of ricoh arena announced fa cup quarter-final match against chelsea on 7 march 2009 chelsea won 2–0 in front of 31,407.
2012 – coventry relegated league one, third tier in english football, first time in 48 years
2013 – club owners, sisu, place non-operating subsidiary of club, owns no financial assets , has no employee on or off pitch, administration. club moved staff out of ricoh arena , administrator accepted bid otium entertainment group, company registered 3 ex-sky blues directors ken dulieu, onye igwe , leonard brody. club agrees play future home matches @ sixfields stadium, northampton. following 2 adjournments creditors meeting in august rejected company voluntary arrangement put forward administrator.
2014 – club return ricoh arena.
2016 – protests coventry city supporters against owners sisu reach all-time high, demonstrations during matches against charlton athletic , sheffield united receiving widespread press attention. petition calling sisu sell , leave set in september 2016 , has far been signed 20,000 individuals, including several former coventry city players , managers. fa chairman greg clarke described coventry s situation sad case , sentiment later echoed caretaker manager mark venus s description of sorry football club .
2017 – coventry reach wembley first time in 30 years defeating wycombe wanderers in semi-final of efl trophy. go on win final against oxford united lift first trophy since 1987 s fa cup victory. result in obvious contrast club s season whole, coventry being relegated efl league two, first time in fourth tier of english football since 1959.
