in 1914, canadian expeditionary force (cef) created in response call united kingdom soldiers. cef separate entity permanent active militia (by known permanent force, or pf) , non-permanent active militia or npam. regiments , other units of militia not mobilized, rather transferred personnel cef overseas employment. cef disbanded after war.
