in 1802, spain returned of land france, keeping title 7,500 square miles. in 1803, of land modern day kansas acquired united states france part of 828,000 square mile louisiana purchase 2.83 cents per acre.


in 1854, kansas territory organized, in 1861 kansas became 34th u.s. state. in 1855, greenwood county established, , named alfred b. greenwood, u.s. congressman arkansas.


the first railroad in greenwood county built through territory in 1879.
