stanislaus republican county in presidential , congressional elections. in 2012, however, barack obama won county 49.9 percent of vote. last democrat win majority in county jimmy carter in 1976, although barack obama won plurality in 2008 , 2012, did bill clinton in both 1992 , 1996. neighbouring merced county, stanislaus considered bellwether county. voted winning candidate president in every election 1972-2012.
