on november 2, 1942, deportations death camps began , during 5 days in february 1943, 10,000 jews sent auschwitz. later, on february 13, 5,000 jews sent treblinka. during deportations, many synagogues looted , people murdered. last jews deported in march, 1943. end of war, 1 jew had remained in ghetto.


after war, jewish community revived. of jews emigrated after collapse of soviet union. today there several hundred jews in city of community s activity centralized in main synagogue had been returned community authorities in 1990s. head of community rabbi yitzhak kaufman.


a memorial plaque, commemorating 25,000 jews exterminated in 2 ghettos in city of grodno placed on building in zamkova street, entrance ghetto once was. on november 12, 2012, memorial plaque vandalized, allegedly anti-semitic act.
