in 1920, cuarteto oriental became sextet , renamed sexteto habanero. group established classical configuration of son sextet composed of guitar, tres, bongos, claves, maracas , double bass. sextet members were: guillermo castillo, conductor, guitar , second voice; gerardo martínez, first voice; felipe neri cabrera, maracas , choir; ricardo martínez, tresero, joaquín velazco, bongos; , antonio bacallao, botija. abelardo barroso, 1 of famous soneros, joined group in 1925.
