the ncc in india formed national cadet corps act of 1948. raised on 15 july 1948. origin of ncc can traced ‘university corps’, created under indian defence act 1917, objective make shortage of army. in 1920, when indian territorial act passed, ‘university corps’ replaced university training corps (utc). aim raise status of utc , make more attractive youth. utc officers , cadets dressed army. significant step towards indianisation of armed forces. rechristened in form of uotc national cadet corps can considered successor of university officers training corps (uotc) established british government in 1942. during world war ii, uotc never came expectations set british. led idea better schemes should formed, train more young men in better way, during peace. committee headed pandit hradaya nath kunjru recommended cadet organization established in schools , colleges @ national level. national cadet corps act accepted governor general , on 15 july 1948 national cadet corps came existence.


in 1948, girls division raised in order give equal opportunities school , college going girls. ncc given inter-service image in 1950 when air wing added, followed naval wing in 1952. same year, ncc curriculum extended include community development/social service activities part of ncc syllabus @ behest of late pandit jawaharlal nehru took keen interest in growth of ncc. following 1962 sino-indian war, meet requirement of nation, ncc training made compulsory in 1963. in 1968, corps again made voluntary.


during indo-pakistani war of 1965 & bangladesh-pakistani war of 1971, ncc cadets second line of defence. organized camp assist ordnance factories, supplying arms , ammunition front , used patrol parties capture enemy paratroopers. ncc cadets worked hand in hand civil defence authorities , actively took part in rescue works , traffic control.


after 1965 , 1971 wars ncc syllabus revised. rather being second line of defence, ncc syllabus laid greater stress on developing quality of leadership , officer qualities. military training ncc cadets received reduced , greater importance given other areas social service , youth management.
