the party s strongest branch in styria, state landtag party represented, , strongest state in national elections. within styria, kpÖ particularly strong in graz, styrian capital , second largest city in austria, kpÖ outpolls spÖ , grüne (20.75% in 2005 local council elections). party retained stronghold in 2012. kpÖ retains support in historical industrial strongholds in vienna, lower austria, , upper austria.
the kpÖ strong younger voters, doubling vote share 1.47% in 2005 vienna state election after voting age lowered 16. first time since 1991 kpÖ had seats in districts. on october 23, 2005 1 mandate each won in districts of leopoldstadt , landstraße, although not in state landtag. in remaining 21 districts mandates narrowly missed.
