the increasing use of canals leisure purposes led people consider restoring of had been abandoned. @ first, progress slow due lack of funding, of work having done manually volunteers.


as leisure industry grew, economic benefits of having canal became more apparent , state funding started appear. @ same time public interest increased size of various volunteer groups.


at present time, canal restoration in uk carried out mixture of volunteers , professionals working on large variety of projects.
