fall of mosul , ninewa plain

after fall of mosul, isis demanded assyrian christians living in city convert islam, pay tribute, or face execution, july 19, 2014. isil leader abu bakr al-baghdadi further noted christians not agree follow terms must leave borders of islamic caliphate within specified deadline. resulted in complete assyrian christian exodus mosul, marking end of 1,800 years of continuous christian presence. church mass not held in mosul first time in 1,800 years.


isil has set similar rules christians living in other cities , towns, including de facto capital raqqa. however, on 29 march 2016, isil issued decree preventing christians leaving raqqa.


isis had been seen marking christian homes letter nūn nassarah ( christian ). several religious buildings seized , subsequently demolished, notably mar behnam monastery.


by august 7, isis captured assyrian towns of qaraqosh, tel keppe, bartella, , karamlish, prompting residents flee. more 100,000 iraqi christians forced flee homes , leave property behind after isis invaded qaraqosh , surrounding towns in nineveh plains province of iraq.


in november 2014, price list yazidi , christian females surfaced online. while human rights ngo defend international verified document s authenticity, un official zainab bangura didn t confirm genuine until august 2015.


beheading of copts

on february 12, 2015, isil released report in online magazine dabiq showing photos of 21 egyptian copts migrant workers had kidnapped in city of sirte, libya, , whom threatened kill avenge [alleged] kidnapping of muslim women egyptian coptic church . men, came different villages in egypt, 13 of them al-our, minya governorate, kidnapped in sirte in 2 separate attacks on december 27, 2014, , in january 2015.


khabur valley offensive

on 23 february 2015, in response major kurdish offensive in al-hasakah governorate, isil abducted 150 assyrians villages near tell tamer in northeastern syria, after launching large offensive in region.


according diplomat alberto m. fernandez, of 232 of assyrians kidnapped in isis attack on assyrian christian farming villages on banks of khabur river in northeast syria, 51 children , 84 women. of them remain in captivity, 1 account claiming isis demanding $22 million (or $100,000 per person) release.


on 8 october, isil released video showing 3 of assyrian men kidnapped in khabur being executed. reported 202 of 253 kidnapped assyrians still in captivity, each 1 demanded ransom of $100,000.
