early career

he entered army in 1789 @ private rank, in 2nd mounted chasseurs regiment , fought distinction in campaigns of french revolutionary wars in armies fighting on river rhine, , 1792 year 1801 in armée du rhin, armée de rhin-et-moselle, armée d allemagne, armée d angleterre, armée de mayence, armée d italie. wounded several times, bordessoulle made sous-lieutenant in august 1794, lieutenant in july 1796 , captain in january 1798. fought panache @ novi on 15 august 1799, being wounded again whilst covering army s retreat. rose rapidly through ranks, being promoted chef d escadron in 6th hussards in may 1799 , receiving honorary sabre in 1802.

he served in bruges camp in 1803 , 1804. fought in campaigns of 1805 1807 in austria, prussia , poland in 2nd corps of grande armée, rising colonel of 22nd regiment of chasseurs on 27 december 1805. next fought @ austerlitz on 2 december before being transferred 4th corps under soult in october 1806. on 9 june 1807, @ head of 60 men regiment, crossed guttstadt passage, charged , tore pieces russian battalion, , received 2 bayonet wounds on right forearm , in chest. distinguished himself again @ heilsberg following day , @ friedland on 12 june, , made général de brigade of light cavalry (9th hussards, 7th , 20th chasseurs) on 25 june. on 1 august moved brune s army corps , in december put in charge of light cavalry attached defence of danzig.

on first return of bourbon monarchy, bordesoulle s noble origins got him appointment inspector general of cavalry in may 1814, knight of order of saint louis on 2 june , grand officer of légion d honneur on 23 august. on napoleon s return elba, bordesoulle took provisional command of 9 cavalry squadrons of 2nd military division headed châlons on 12 march 1815 , confirmed in role royal government on 16 march. followed louis xviii of france ghent, made chief of staff comte d artois (later charles x of france) on 25 june 1815. returned france duke of berry in july 1815 after hundred days , made grand-cross of légion d honneur king on 13 august , on appointed command , reorganise cavalry of royal guard on 8 september. bordesoulle elected centre-right député indre in chambre introuvable of 1815-1816, , on 12 october made member of commission charged investigating conduct of officers during hundred days.
