on june 10, powerful squall line of thunderstorms embedded supercells developed across new york , moved northeast through parts of northern new england , quebec. particularly hard hit montreal region , southern suburbs including longueuil, châteauguay, brossard , saint-jean-sur-richelieu. barns reported damaged , other structures sustained roof , siding damage; particularly in saint-blaise-sur-richelieu area 1 home pushed foundation. in sainte-catherine, roof of office blown nearby residence punching large hole on wall. on montreal s champlain bridge, 8 tractor trailers overturned forcing closure of entire bridge in both directions. in addition, window washing platform tumbled high rise building in downtown montreal. workers able inside.

severe thunderstorms affected saint-hyacinthe, sherbrooke, trois-rivières , quebec city winds strong 68 miles per hour (109 km/h) reported locally higher gusts while hail golf ball baseball size reported in mont-saint-hilaire , belœil breaking windows homes , vehicles. roof of 65 unit apartment complex in sainte-foy heavily damaged. quebec bridge linking city suburb of levis temporarily shut down because of collapsed scaffolding. 300,000 hydro-québec customers across province lost power, particularly in quebec city, montérégie , montreal regions outages occurring in eastern townships , mauricie regions. schools in areas closed on june 11 due power outages. tractor trailer accidents resulted in 2 minor injuries during storms. according report insurance bureau of canada, insured damage amounts estimated @ $56 million (2008 cad), , 16,000 insurance claims filed damage homes , automobiles.


the severe weather extended south eastern seaboard of united states ended prolonged period of intense heat. temperatures had reached mid upper 90s °f (mid 30s °c) several days in row, areas exceeding 100 °f (38 °c). 150,000 customers in new jersey, 140,000 in pennsylvania , 50,000 in northern new york lost power. 1 person killed in lewis county, new york fallen trees during storm.

the same series of systems contributed significant flooding event in many parts of midwest. several counties in region in iowa, illinois , wisconsin declared disaster areas. on 10 inches (25 cm) fell in areas on course of week, , in indiana rivers approached levels similar flooding in 1913 which killed 200 people. in franklin, indiana, water @ 1 point reached first level of area hospital, , buildings @ franklin college damaged. flooding reported in columbus, helmsburg , terre haute, indiana. coast guard units deployed in assistance rescue efforts. parts of interstate 65 , u.s. route 31 temporarily shut down. thirty thousand people in indiana lost power during storms, , several counties filed disaster declarations.

beginning on june 8, flooding started occurring across parts of iowa following several round of thunderstorms , heavy rains. in parkersburg, iowa, levee burst, flooding 3 nearby highways. in new hartford, hit same tornado, water gushed on levee forcing evacuation of 650 people. flood waters damaged water treatment plant leaving mason city without drinking water. 5 inches (13 cm) of rain fell in parts of state. mandatory evacuations made in cedar falls , waterloo. several entire blocks in cedar rapids under water (which @ times high stop signs) after cedar river overflowed banks. flooding later affected iowa city area along iowa river 20 buildings on university of iowa campus affected. many other towns across state became flooded rising water levels made way mississippi river across southeastern iowa, western illinois , northeastern missouri. flooding reported north of mason city in southeastern minnesota, several inches of rain closed roads , forced evacuations. gays mills, wisconsin evacuated second time in ten months when kickapoo river flooded town. these same areas affected 2007 midwest flooding. june 3 to june 11 eight people killed due flooding; 3 in indiana, 3 in michigan, , 1 in illinois , minnesota.
