since 2014, senate consists of 60 members. there 2 categories of senators: co-opted senators , senators of community , regional parliaments.


50 senators elected , community , regional parliaments: 29 flemish parliament, 10 parliament of french community, 8 walloon parliament, 2 french-language group of parliament of brussels-capital region, , 1 parliament of german-speaking community.


the 10 other senators co-opted: elected 50 other senators. eligibility requirements senate identical chamber.


before 2014, senate consisted of 71 senators, 21 of elected community parliaments. 25 directly elected flemish constituency , 15 french-speaking constituency. last direct election of these 40 members occurred in 2010 federal elections. 2014 elections first 1 reformed senate.
