born in nancy, capital of duchy of lorraine, son of louis, marquis de beauvau (1638–1703) , second wife, anne de ligny.
on 16 december 1704 married anne marguerite de lignéville (1686–1772) @ lunéville. had 8 sons , 12 daughters. wife anne marguerite mistress of sovereign, leopold, duke of lorraine.

having inherited marquisate of beauvau in lorraine, created marquis de craon on 21 august 1712 louis xiv of france.
on 13 november 1722 became honorary prince of holy roman empire under title prince von beauvau-craon .
on 8 may 1727 made grandee of spain of first class philip v, son, charles juste, being admitted honneurs de la cour in paris princely title in 1755.
