the box plot quick way of examining 1 or more sets of data graphically. box plots may seem more primitive histogram or kernel density estimate have advantages. take less space , therefore particularly useful comparing distributions between several groups or sets of data (see figure 1 example). choice of number , width of bins techniques can heavily influence appearance of histogram, , choice of bandwidth can heavily influence appearance of kernel density estimate.
