the first quarter defensive standoff, both teams keeping each other scoreless. sam houston final got on scoreboard @ 13:28 mark of second quarter when sam houston special teams member vincent dotson blocked punt attempt cal poly punter marco tavecchio bowl rolling end zone. 2 sam houston special teams member both chased ball score defensive touchdown, collided while diving ball, sending ball rolling out of endzone safety, resulting in 2-0 sam houston score. sam houston kicker miguel antonio scored 2 field goals during period, 20-yard kick near middle of quarter , 32-yard goal in final minute, giving sam houston 8-0 lead @ halftime.


cal poly struck in third quarter, kicker bobby zalud scoring 23-yard field goal @ 9:44 minute mark , again @ 3:48 mark bring score 8-6 sam houston. sam houston scored touchdown of game in final 30 seconds of quarter 18-yard pass quarterback brian bell running keshawn hill, raising sam houston s lead 15-6. cal poly scored next during fourth quarter 48-yard field goal zalud @ 9:25-minute mark narrow sam houston s lead 15-9. sam houston responded 3:23 remaining 26-yard field goal antonio, spreading lead 18-9 sam houston. cal poly drove down field next possession, , mustangs quarterback andre broadous lateraled wide receiver ryan taylor in turn connected wide receiver wille tucker on 50-yard scoring pass 1:34 remaining. point zalud brought cal poly within 2 points of sam houston. cal poly attempted onside kick, sam houston wide receiver trey diller recovered kick , bearkats ran out remaining time taking knee, final score 18-16 sam houston.


sam houston quarterback brian bell completed 9 of 19 passes total 88 yards. mustangs quarterback andre broadus had 6 complete passes out of 12 attempts 113 yards , interception. sam houston s tim flanders rushed 17 times total 101 yards, followed richard sincere carried ball 7 times 39 yards , keshawn hill rushed 5 times 15 yards. sam houston s chance nelson caught ball 3 times 38 yards, hill received once 18 yards.
